What is Montessori?
“Montessori” is the name of a method of instruction developed by the Italian educator Dr. Maria Montessori. In a Montessori classroom, children learn at their own pace and are given time to explore their own interests. Montessori education fosters independence, responsibility, cooperation and a lifetime love of learning.
Montessori Philosophy
1. Each child has a purpose to fulfill. If all his or her needs are met, including education, he or she will fulfill that purpose for the benefit of humanity.
2. Children should be encouraged to follow their own interests.
3. Teachers should have a profound respect for each child's uniqueness.
4. Children learn through their senses. After a concrete experience, children are ready to abstract concepts at appropriate ages.
